Lost Pines
2011
A Year of Wildfires
|
As the title suggests, this ride was taken in 2011. The purpose of the ride was to photograph the horrendous damage done to the Lost Pine Forrest. The devastation was complete. Very few trees or building were left unmarked by the ravages of the decimating fire. Draught like conditions contributed to the intensity of the blaze. It is a testiment to the people of Bastrop and the surrounding area. They responded in the most positive way they could. Local rentals were kept down so families could affort to stay while they either rebuilt of relocated. Aid stations were formed to offer tools and equipment to rebuild and food to sustain the body. |

Barbecue Capital of Texas – Lockhart, Texas
While on this quest, a man has got to eat. We visited some of the best barbecue joints in Texas. The feud between Kreuz and Smitty's is well documented. Any Google search will reward you with plenty of info about the history of these two restaurants. We didn't restrict ourselves to the hunt for good barbecue in Lockhart. We rode down to Luling and had some of the best pork ribs I've ever eaten. Sometime towards the beginning of the week, Dozer, Boomer and I took a quick side trip to Monument Hill State Park in La Grange. I try to stop there whenever I'm in the neighborhood. I read that the State will be putting more money into the Park. It is well worth your time to check it out. Here are a few images to give you an idea what we were up to ... enjoy! |
