Getting Away
Whichever quote you most identify with, we who love motorcycle riding, almost to a rider, love to get away from the maddening crowd. It is in our jeans (sic). The seat of our pants pushes us off the super slab towards our state, and farm to market roads. Point your front tire towards me and I’ll take you to a place you’re going to love. Guaranteed!
Texas Hill Country – Leakey, Texas
Upon arrival we were greeted by a herd of grazing deer. A few fled and others looked up to see what all the fuss was about. |
Joyce Weston’s ancestors, five generations on her mother’s side and four generations on her father’s, built the first little cabin on the family property in 1939. Joyce is from the McCaleb clan, a mixture of English and Scot’s Irish who have settled all over the Hill Country and have lent many of their life stories to a colorful Texas history.
Modern Cabins
Originally the cabins did not have indoor plumbing. Stucco additions were built onto the smaller cabins in the 50’s to provide indoor plumbing. The two newer, large cabins were built with bathrooms. Each has four beds with ample room. The spacious kitchen and dining area have everything you need for a comfortable stay. Also included: they will provide FIREWOOD, BBQ GRILL, and WiFi, for those that must stay connected. There are no TV’s and I say yah to that! There is a wonderful photo op a few yards away, where the East and West Frio meet. You can view pictures of this spot in the Bonus Pictures Section below. Well buckaroos, Gary DuPriest, Dozer, Bowhunter, and I found Camp Live Oak more than OK. We rode the Three Sister, which I will tell you about it in the upcoming issues. Until then;
Don't forget;
ride often, ride hard and ride safe, but mostly ... |
